A NOTE ON TYRE PRESSURES

The subject of suitable tyre pressures for classic bikes running modern tyres has been raised at Club meetings recently.

With the developments in tyre design over the years it's best not to assume that the pressures recommended by your bike’s manufacturer decades ago still apply today.

The gist is that modern tyres may need higher pressures than those you will find recommended in your classic's handbook.
This is due to the softer compounds used these days, and the fact that the sidewalls actually flex.

So rather than just rely on an ancient handbook it’s a good idea to consult your tyre manufacturer for advice on the bike/tyre combination you’re using.
Their websites are usually very informative and if you contact them you will usually get a quick, informed response re the pressures you need to use.
